2014 Turonia Rías Baixas Quinta de Couselo Albariño, Galicia, Spain

Quinta de Couselo is in the O Rosal Valley, on the northern side of the Mino River, in the north west Galicia district of Spain, close to the Atlantic Ocean.
The Cistercian monks of Santa Maria de Ola lived in the monastery, which was built in 1163 under the reign of Alfonso VII.  In the late nineteenth century, the monastery was purchased by the Vicente family and today the land, approximately 10 acres, is planted with mainly Albariño vines, as well as Loureiro, Treixadura and Caino.  The winery was created by the Vicente family in the early 1990s, following the creation of the Denominacion de Origen Rías Baixas, and quickly became one of the flagships of the region. It is markedly cooler and more protected than other valleys and the soils are predominantly decomposed granite.
This small winery is known for its love of the environment and winemaker Jose Manuel Martinez Juste draws from Quinta de Couselo’s long tradition of winemaking to produce seriously elegant wines which reflect the Estate’s unique terroir.
A moreish wine, unoaked and vibrantly fruity – a classic partner to white meats such as pork and chicken.  It is also great with pan fried vegetables and couscous with toasted pine nuts and roasted lemons.
