Domaine du Chêne Condrieu, a world classic, and the finest expression of the Viognier grape you can get!

2012 Domaine du Chêne Condrieu, Northern Rhône, France
“The tiny North Rhône appellation of Condrieu is home to the most revered expression of the Viognier grape on the planet. Rich and hedonistic in style, top examples are simply one of the world’s greats. Domaine du Chêne is a rising star, as evidenced by winning the Regional Trophy in the Decanter World White Wine Awards 2014” Nick Adams MW
Condrieu_Domaine_du_CheneDomaine du Chêne (Famille Rouvière) is situated in the small village of Chavanay in the heart of the North Rhône.  In 1985, Dominique and Marc Rouviere bought a 5.5 hectare property and renovated the old house in the middle of the vineyard and called it ‘Domaine du Chêne’.
Viognier vines cling to precipitous, steep hillsides consisting of a unique granite and sandy soil called “Arzel” locally.  The crystalline soil structure helps to store heat, which is accentuated by the vineyards southerly exposure.
The vineyard has grown to 16 hectares of vines with the average age of the vines around 35 years old.  These vines are tended with an environmentally-aware production method and the family is dedicated to producing top quality wines from outstanding estate grown fruit.
Clever use of oak (a modern trend in Condrieu) has added a lovely texture and creamy, mildly smoky notes to the bold apricot fruit flavours.
This wine is a world classic and one of the finest expressions of the Viognier grape you can get!
