This flagship wine scored highly in Decanter’s Premium Rioja panel tasting; Murrieta’s finest single vineyard cuvée, and one of the region’s most iconic examples. Deep, rich and concentrated, an abundance of red and black fruit on the palette with gentle spice and vanilla oak notes. Fantastic power and poise. Now entering its 10th year, this will easily keep for another 10! Enjoy now or savour with further bottle ageing.
2007 Marqués de Murrieta Rioja, Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial Marqués de Murrieta is simply one of Rioja’s greatest Bodegas. Founded in 1852 by Luciano Ramón de Murrieta he was a founding father for the Rioja region as a whole and was made a “Marqués” in recognition of his service and achievements. Many single celebrated vineyards are found within the estate; their most famous plot is probably the La Plana located at 485 metres and containing some of the oldest vines. These are always dedicated to the Gran Reserva and in very special years are the bedrock for the flagship wine Castillo Ygay Especial Highly Recommended: Decanter’s Premium Rioja Panel Tasting 98 Point: James Suckling 95 Points: Robert Parker, Wine Advocate £75.00 per bottle More from Marqués de Murrieta… 2010 Marqués de Murrieta Blanco Rioja Reserva ‘Capellanía’ A modern take on a classic white Rioja style.
