Martin Shaw (the winemaker) and Michael Hill-Smith OA (MW) have shot to fame with a succession of fine wines from Shiraz, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Their vision to make exciting, refined wines exclusively from the Adelaide Hills together with their environmentally sensitive winery is regarded as the benchmark for winery developments in that area. Sourcing from the genuinely cool climate vineyards, they regularly hit the bulls eye in their sense of power, bright fruit yet balance and sense of restraint. The region is strikingly beautiful with its patchwork of vineyards, forests, beef and dairy farms, apple and pear orchards.
The M3 Chardonnay is sourced mainly from the Lenswood vineyard from handpicked fruit. 2014 was a lovely vintage with reduced yields and grapes harvested in ideal autumn conditions. Gentle use of oak supports the relatively delicate, refreshing stone fruit style – without any loss of power or concentration. The palate displays trademark M3 elegance and restraint with an extra dimension of creaminess through to the finish.
This wine is a classic partner to fleshy white fish with a cream or butter sauce, or hearty salads.
