 2013 Villiera ‘Down to Earth’ Red, Stellenbosch Villiera is a family run winery in the Stellenbosch region , close to the Simonsberg Mountain which separates the region from nearby Paarl. Award-winning winemaker Jeff Grier crafts a range of wines characterized by Villiera’s unique terroir and the retention of the distinct aromas and flavours of the different varietals. “Down to Earth” has been developed by Villiera as a wine to suit any occasion and anybody’s tastes. Cousins Jeff and Simon Grier started Villiera Wines in 1983 and embarked on an extensive replanting of classic and local varietals. The introduction of hi-tech cellar facilities for the production of still wines as well as Méthode Cap Classique, South Africa’s answer to Champagne, has seen Villiera developing into one of the largest private wineries in the country. Awarded membership to the Biodiversity of Wine Initiative, environmental standards are a key focus of the Grier family, who interestingly employ 1000 Peking ducks to handle pest control!
