If you love Sancerre, you’ll love this wine from a leading estate in the Loire Valley

Château de Maupas, from Menetou-Salon, one of the Appellations leading estates and Sancerre’s immediate neighbour, is making really fine wines of equal pedigree and style! A vibrant expression of Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc.

2014 Menetou-Salon Château de Maupas Blanc

An unfamiliar name but a very familiar and widely appreciated style.  Next door to Sancerre, Menetou-Salon gets on very well with its neighbour and these days they both enjoy universal acclaim.  Made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc with no oak at all, this is vibrant, refreshing and very fruity – a perfect template for summer white wine drinking.
Joseph Remoortere was a cereal farmer who arrived in Menetou-Salon in the 1960s with the intent of extending his cereal business. However, he soon became attracted to the wines of the region and decided to diversify – taking over the running of Château de Maupas in 1990.  Now retired, his son Antoine, who studied oenology at the local lycée in Cosne-sur-Loire, runs the estate
Racy citric fruit flavours, a twist of elderflower and a chalky mineral finish.
Ideal with all white fish and shellfish –  simply cooked or on the BBQ, with a butter, lemon and caper sauce or a touch of garlic butter. Perfect too with summer salads and raw vegetables with savoury dips.
