Bursting with raspberry and black cherry fruit on both the nose and palate this is really juicy and nicely soft and jammy without any hard edges. Lovely savoury, and overtly Italian, feel to the wine.”

Origin

The winery is outside the town of Canicattì, near the Valley of the Temples in southern Sicily. La Ferla refers to the fennel flower, which like the grapes flourish in this area. This is the natural home of Nero d’Avola, a variety that is regarded by many as Sicily’s finest red grape.

Producer

In 1969, over 480 vignerons came together – united by their love for the vineyards of Sicily – and pooled their efforts to form the CVA Canicattì. For over 40 years CVA Canicattì has been redefining the concept of viticultural quality, through important investments in the vineyard and winery. Part of their philosophy has been to focus on and promote the indigenous grape varieties of Sicily.

Grape Variety

100% Nero d’Avola.

The grapes are vinified using traditional practices. The wine is aged for 3 months in steel tanks and a further 1 month in the bottle.

Food Match

A great midweek red – a natural for that old favourite spaghetti Bolognese, or any pasta and red meat, or roasted vegetable sauce.

This wine was the reason I found the Wine Trust having drunk it in a restaurant. My wife rates this as her favourite red wine. Yes the Italian nature is obvious but it is very soft and full of fruit in comparison to many others. A very good value wine.

  2. Jana

This is my favorite easy drinking red. Goes with everything and is delicious ! The reason I am ordering from wine trust since `i was not bale to find it anywhere else!

  3. ryanbrady1981

A modern Nero d’Avola with typical, fruity notes and nuances of black pepper; harmonious, well-balanced and pleasant tannins.

  4. Will (verified owner)

A really fruity, tasty Italian wine. A really easy drink and a great price too. Definitely worth trying this!
