Lestrille is located in the small town of St. Germain du Puch, on the northern point of Entre-deux-Mers. The Entre-deux-Mers is one of Bordeaux’s largest appellations, and translates as “between two seas,” signifying its positions between the large Garonne and Dordogne rivers.
55% Sauvignon Gris, 39% Sauvignon Blanc, 6% Semillon.
The grapes were harvested at full maturity. Skin maceration and cold stabilisation followed, before the wine was fermented in new oak and aged on its lees (for 6 months) to add extra texture and weight. Sauvignon Gris is a cousin of Sauvignon Blanc, but richer in body and totally complimentary in character. This is one of the few Château in Bordeaux to recognise its qualities and transforms the blend.
Drink now and over the next 18 months.
The 95 hectare estate is owned and managed by Estelle Roumage and husband Jean-Louis, who have used the services of renowned consultant and Bordeaux-based oenologist Michel Rolland. The family employ 'lutte raisonnée' - essentially the control of chemical treatments - in their cultivation of grapes, developing pragmatic agricultural practices with respect to the environment.
A full flavoured aperitif, but rich enough to go with quite meaty fish (and with a sauce) also white meats and salads. Great with a simple plate of smoked salmon, lemon and caper berries.
