£16.95 a bottle

A smooth, ripe wine bursting with white peach flavours and superb lemon freshness. Concentrated apricot flavours on the palate are generously kissed by spicy wood and the palate finishes with a long rich, toasty note. A classy and elegant white Bordeaux.

Origin

Lestrille is located in the small town of St. Germain du Puch, on the northern point of Entre-deux-Mers. The Entre-deux-Mers is one of Bordeaux’s largest appellations, and translates as “between two seas,” signifying its positions between the large Garonne and Dordogne rivers.

Producer

The 95 hectare estate is owned and managed by Estelle Roumage and husband Jean-Louis, who have used the services of renowned consultant and Bordeaux-based oenologist Michel Rolland. The family employ ‘lutte raisonnée’ – essentially the control of chemical treatments – in their cultivation of grapes, developing pragmatic agricultural practices with respect to the environment.

Grape Variety

Sauvignon Gris 47%, Sauvignon Blanc 35%, Semillon 6%, Muscadelle 1%

The grapes were picked at full maturity and carefully sorted. Maceration took place for eight hours with a cold stabilisation and yeast inoculation being carried out in tank. Fermentation took place in new french oak and the wine was then aged on its fine lees with frequent bâtonnage, imparting texture and complexity to the resulting wine. The wine was bottled after 10 months.

Food Match

A full flavoured aperitif, but rich enough to go with quite meaty fish (and with a sauce) also white meats and salads. Great with a simple plate of smoked salmon, lemon and caper berries.

  1. Oscar

One of my favourite whites. Creamy, oaky and peachy – in that order. Very highly recommended if you enjoy big & bold white wine.
