St Émilion is an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée in the Bordeaux region, on the right bank of the The Dordogne around the beautiful town that bears the same name, also a UNESCO heritage site. Soils here consists more of limestone and clay, with less deep gravel than Médoc, conditions which are particularly conducive to the Merlot grape.
70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc.
For this Bordeaux blend the wine is aged in oak (30% new) for 18 months.
Drink now or will keep for at least 5 years. We strongly recommend you decant this wine two hours prior to drinking.
Château Petit Val is a family owned winery just two miles outside St Émilion. At only 9 hectares it lives up to its name, but small scale family enterprises are characteristic of the appellation. Petit Val is currently owned by Denis Boutet.
Try with classic cuts of beef, leg of lamb or venison; can't go wrong.
