Côtes de Gascogne is almost entirely located in the Gers départment, one of the southernmost areas of France in the shadow of the Pyrenees Mountains. The area is arguably as famous for the production of Armagnac Brandy, but has built a strong reputation for high quality white table wines. Vineyards are situated on sandy soils, characteristic of the area, and the high diurnal temperature range during late summer help the fresh acidity and vibrant aromas to flourish.
100% Sauvignon Blanc.
Grapes are picked at the coolest time of the day to preserve acidity and freshness, followed by skin-contact maceration to further develop the wine’s aromatic qualities. Fermented at controlled temperatures and no oak contact prior to bottling.
Drink now and over the next 18 months.
Domaine de l’Herré was established in 1974 and includes an extensive 130 hectare estate, focusing production on Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay as well as local varieties such as Gros Manseng and Colombard. The estate traditionally produced bulk wine but was acquired by Cap Wine International in 2010; since then there has been serious investment in the production process and they are now producing some of the best wine in the region.
Made for light seafood and salad dishes; a fresh crab salad springs to mind!
