Origin

The name Fleurie comes from the local town, which forms part of the “Cru Beaujolais” appellation - the highest quality classification of wine in the Beaujolais region. Interestingly, this wine also bears the regional Bourgogne name, which reminds us that the region is technically part of Burgundy - its southern most outpost!

Grape Variety

100% Gamay.

Grapes were hand harvested (the vine average age is 50 years), on pink granite soil in a small single vineyard area called Montée de la Tonne. The wine includes a proportion of grapes which underwent semi carbonic maceration, where whole bunches ferment under a carbonic gas, which creates fantastic juicy fruit flavours and aroma. the final blend was then aged in old barrels on its lees for a period of 3-4 months before bottling on site.

Producer

Manoir du Carra was founded in 1850; today, the Domaine covers 34 hectares and has been managed by the Sambardier Family for generations. Jean-Noël and his sons are currently managing all viticulture and winemaking, with a focus on preserving the traditions of both the region and the Domaine. Their philosophy is to respect the environment, whilst engaging selectively in new technologies and practices. They are a thoughtful and proud Domaine.

Food Match

Has the fruit and sufficient weight to go with light meat dishes - for example hams, salami - especially when served with salads. Works equally well with a similar mixed selection of "endente" vegetables and leaves, served with dips and a dressing. Also one of the few reds you can enjoy on its own as an aperitif. Serve cool to accentuate the fruit qualities.
