Located at Nackenheim Rothenburg - regarded as one of the best sites in Rheinhessen for wine production. Specifically, the grapes are sourced from the "Rotter Hang" - or "Red Hill" - on steep, mineral-rich red slate slopes facing the Rhine. Combined with the special microclimate induced by its geographical setting, this lay the foundations for the creation of unique and impressive wines. The producers train their vines to be low yielding, concentrating the flavours gained from this unique terrior.
Yields are restricted, as a matter of principle, to a maximum of 50hl/ha, which is low for German wine production. Although a few wines are fermented in larger older wooden casks, the Fritz’s Riesling is made solely in stainless steel and fermented at cool temperatures to enhance the bold fruity flavours and aromatic qualities.
Drink now and over the next 3 years.
Based in Nackenheim, the Gunderloch estate is steeped in history. Dating back to 1890, it was founded by Carl Gunderloch, Agnes being the 5th generation in her family to run the winery along with husband Fritz Hasselbach. Riesling is the mainstay varietal of the estate, where it is cultivated on 85% of the their 24 hectare estate.
Wonderful aperitif, but sufficient back bone to work well with a classic chicken Korma curry.
