Origin

Based at Alto Agrelo in Mendoza, Pulenta own 135 hectares including large plots in the finest sub regions of Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley. Many of these vineyards are situated at altitudes of between 3000 and 3,500 feet, which tempers the Mendoza heat and makes for more refined and balanced wines. All vineyards are operated on an organic basis and are irrigated from natural melted Andes snow water.

Producer

Bodegas Pulenta is a family enterprise now in its third generation of wine makers. Winemaking began just over a century ago in 1912, while the Luján de Cuyo plantation was only later added in 1992. Eduardo and Hugo Pulenta are currently in charge, taking over from their father, Antonio.

Food Match

Go for big, bold meaty dishes which have been char grilled – especially if accompanied by a rich BBQ style sauce or marinade.

In the press

"The percentages of the five grapes change from year to year, but this wonderful red cuvée always includes Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Tannat. As ever, the blending is seamless, with a sheen of aromatic oak, fine tannins and sweet and savoury flavours of fresh tobacco, mint, cassis and dried herbs. " Tim Atkins MW, Argentina 2017 Special Report

"Bright red-ruby. Rich, alluring scents of cassis, blackberry, mocha and expensive smoky oak. Plush and sweet on the palate, showing sexy rose petal lift to its raspberry, strawberry, menthol and spice flavors. Juicy acidity shapes the fruit, leavens the wine's sweetness and draws out the finish. In fact, today this very suave wine's fine-grained tannins are overshadowed by the brisk acidity." Stephen Tanzer, Wine Advocate, July 2017
