Origin
Select vineyards located near the inland town of Loreto Aprutino, near Pescara, on the Adriatic Coast.
Grape Variety
100% Montepulciano.
Following a careful selection of younger vine grapes in mid October, a traditional temperature controlled fermentation followed in stainless steel - at slightly lower than normal red winemaking temperatures, in order to capture the fruity vitality of this grape. The wine was aged for six months in used French oak barrels to soften the tannins.
Alcohol Percentage
13%
Cellar Potential
Drink now and over the next 18 months.
Producer
Talamonti was founded in 2001 by the Di Tonno family in one of the most unspoiled parts of Abruzzo. Their vineyards have expanded to 32 hectares in production and in addition to the native Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo other varietals have been planted. Pecorino, for example, was planted in 2004 as part of an estate experiment to study the ability of other varieties to adapt and express themselves.
Food Match
Any good meaty, oregano and tomato based sauce used in a classic Lasagne, served with a rocket, spinach and watercress salad.

"Talamonti is one of my favourite producers in Abruzzo in terms of value and price. The style of winemaking is very consistent and readily offers great bang for your buck" - Monica Larner, Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2015

Recently tried the 2014. An interesting and unusual wine. Very much has flavours of Italy with its dark ripe cherries and a distinct taste of amaretto biscuits. Enjoyable but difficult to pair with food.
