Spellbinding takes on both white and red multi varietal blends from South Africa’s leading winemaker. A fascinating pair to compare and contrast!

2012 Sequillo White and 2010 Sequillo Red, Eben Sadie

In South Africa’s hierarchy of leading and innovative winemakers, Eben Sadie sits at the top of many people’s independent lists.  Add this to the fact that he has harnessed the potential of the Swartland growing area  and no wonder his wines command so much attention.

This pair – under the “Sequillo” label – both have a strong emphasis on the richness of a Rhône style.  In the case of the white, bold stone and apple fruits; and the red, bold spiciness and juicy red berry fruits.  They clearly demonstrate how blending a range of different varieties really works and are a good example of “the total being greater than the sum of its parts”!

2012 Sequillo White
Simply sensational – a magical take on South Africa’s favourite white grape – Chenin Blanc – married with a mix of Rhône, French and Portuguese varieties.  Savoury, intense and wonderfully concentrated and balanced.  Nice and bold, it would work well with a traditional Coq au Vin or casseroled Guinea Fowl.

2010 Sequillo Red
An impressive take on a Châteauneuf-du-Pape model – savoury red berry fruits, spice and a briary finish – really moreish drinking.  It has the perfect flavours and structure to go with traditional Roast Beef, a warming Hungarian goulash or mild lamb curry.
