The vineyards of the Beaujolais region are very hilly. Château de Pierreux's 103 hectares of vines are planted in shallow, well- drained pink granitic, schistous, and siliceous soils. The vines are aged between 40 and 45 years and are sustainably farmed in order to limit the use of chemicals in the vineyards, reestablish the vines' physiological balance and protect the environment.

Grape Variety

100% Gamay.

Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes were carefully sorted to ensure a high quality. The grapes were 100% destemmed and were then fermented in concrete vats for 12 to 15 days at temperatures of 22-28°C. Pumpovers were completed twice daily during this period. The wine was aged in large oak barrels for 12 months prior to bottling.

Château de Pierreux is a 77 hectare estate situated in the heart of Brouilly. It is one of the finest domaines in the Beaujolais region, with a magnificent château and winery built during the Renaissance. It has been managed by Jean-Claude Boisset since the 2002 vintage. The vineyards are planted on highly absorbent sandy soil, consisting of pink granite sprinkled with blue volcanic rocks. The 50 year old vines are 'gobelet', or 'bush', trained at a density of around 10,000 vines per hectare.
