Origin
Malvasia Nera – along with Negroamaro – is the finest of all the indigenous black varieties (in fact the two are often blended together). The warm and rugged nature of the region comes through in the wine but there is plenty of richness and texture too - big, dry and savoury without any heaviness.
Grape Variety
100% Malvasia Nera.
From vineyards with poor quality clay and rocky soils, vines are machine harvested and bunches gently pressed, then fermented in modern temperature controlled tanks with extended skin contact. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for about 6 months.
Alcohol Percentage
13.5%
Cellar Potential

Producer
Cantine San Marzano was founded in 1962 when 19 long established families came together to pull their resources and expertise. Since then members have grown to over 1200 and the focus remains solidly on quality aligned to authenticity – promoting both the individuality of local grapes and regions. Under the stewardship of winemaker Caterina Bellanova their wines are now broadly acknowledged as some of the finest in the region.
Food Match
This is ideal with any pasta, with a meaty and tomato sauce, most classically wild boar in Italy. For the summer a great match with any char grilled meat dishes - or char grilled Mediterranean vegetables such as aubergine, peppers, courgette, especially if you drizzle some balsamic vinegar over them.
Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
