Origin
The Foundry works by sourcing grapes from across the Cape with their affiliated growers, with access to number of terroirs and parcels from which grapes can be selected according to the variety and the desired result. The Grenache Blanc comes from the Foundry's neighbours vineyards in Voor Paardeberg. Grown on Malmesbury shale and decomposed granite, these trellised vines allow us to precisely manage the canopy to enhance fruit, complexity and balance. A small crop was ripened under the ideal climactic conditions of 2015 and harvested at modest sugar levels but at full flavour ripeness to ensure lower alcohol but brighter acidity and freshness.
Grape Variety
100% Grenache Blanc.
Hand harvested and cooled overnight, grapes were whole-bunch pressed to restrain phenolics, yet were fermented with a high percentage of solids to give breadth and definition to the palate. Wine was barrel aged for seven months before bottling.

Producer
The Foundry was a project launched in 2000 by winemaker Chris Williams from the Meerlust estate and James Reid. To say it took off is an understatement, after its maiden year Syrah was awarded a 5 star rating in the John Platter Guide 2004, one of only 17 wines.
Food Match
Ideal with salads, goat's cheese, roasted vegetables or pork dishes.
